We have listed on this page a number of important things that anyone moving home should take into consideration.
- Items should be packed in moving boxes or in sturdy, closable boxes. Many discount stores sell inexpensive moving boxes, but their durability is often an issue. These boxes are usually made of simple cardboard, whereas the boxes used by Muuttopalvelu M. Kähäri are made from strong, thick, quadruple-layer cardboard. The high quality of our moving boxes allows them to be reused. You can also purchase moving boxes and other professional-grade packing supplies from us at affordable prices.
- Do not overfill the moving boxes, as they cannot then be stacked efficiently in the moving truck.
- Moving boxes should not be packed too heavy. Each box must be light enough for one person to carry. If you have used regular cardboard boxes, please consider their strength (e.g., ensuring the bottoms do not break open).
- Clothing and textiles can be packed in sturdy plastic bags (such as garbage bags) to keep them clean. Clothes can also be packed in bags together with their hangers, making it easy to place them directly back into closets. We also provide “wardrobe boxes,” which allow hanging clothes to be transported neatly and conveniently.
- Fragile items must always be packed carefully and protected, even when using moving boxes. Boxes containing fragile items must be clearly marked, for example with the word “fragile.”
- Order moving boxes well in advance so that everything is packed and ready when our moving truck arrives.
- If you need help from our movers in disconnecting lamps, washing machines or other appliances, please inform us in advance so we can bring the necessary tools.
- If there are particularly heavy items in the load (such as the famous piano), please notify us in advance so that we can prepare and equip ourselves properly for moving them.
- Reserve a parking space for the moving truck as close to the building as possible. If needed, mark the space in advance for other residents so that it won’t be occupied by parked cars. If you are unsure about parking arrangements, please let us know early, and we will try to look into the matter.
- Also inform other residents if, for example, the elevator will need to be used during the move. Let us know in advance if a separate external moving lift needs to be arranged.
Moving Abroad or Moving from Abroad
Moving abroad or moving from abroad is easy when you use the professional services of Muuttopalvelu M. Kähäri. We tailor each move on a case-by-case basis to ensure that your international relocation goes as smoothly as possible.
Moving to or from abroad could not be easier. For example, when you are moving to Europe, you must notify the Digital and Population Data Services Agency of your move abroad. Moving abroad also requires notifying Kela of your relocation. Your right to Finnish social security usually remains valid during your stay abroad. Keep this in mind if moving abroad is relevant for you.
While abroad, your social security status may be affected by changes such as starting work or studies. Always inform Kela of any changes in your circumstances. Moving to Europe for work entitles you to switch to the social security system of your country of employment, even if your employment lasts less than a year. Moving within Europe or to/from Europe, as well as art and high-value item transport, are among our core services.
International moving requires paperwork for your cargo as well. Moves outside Europe require additional documentation (e.g., Switzerland, Norway, UK). Whether your move is large or small, we are here to help. We also assist with paperwork and other necessary documents.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask us—we are happy to help with any matters related to moving and transport.
Let’s make your move a stress-free and pleasant experience.
